زبالةZubālah لاpart of 'O God' همpart of 'O God' أسقهاgive her water ثمthen روهاquench her thirst
وقلتand I said لهاfor her أضعافmany times over ذيthese الدعواتthe prayers
Zubālah—O God, water her, then quench her thirst.
Trash, I watered it then watched it grow
And for her I uttered these prayers many times over.
And said to it, increase like prayers do
ألاAh! هلis there? إلىto نجدٍNajd وماءٍand water بقاعهاin its plain
سبيلa path وأرواحٍand breezes بهاthere عطراتfragrant
Ah, is there, to Najd and water in its plain,
Will I find a path to Najd's water and dwellings
A path—and to the fragrant breezes there?
With spirits there perfumed and renewed
وهلand is there? ليfor me إلىto تلكthat الطليحةthe little acacia عودةa return
علىin مثلthe like of تلكthat الحلthe state (text uncertain) قبلbefore وفاتيmy death
And can I return to that little acacia,
Can I return to that sand heap I knew
In a state like that, before my death,
To a time before my life is through
فأشربso I may drink منfrom ماءwater السماءthe sky فأرتويand quench my thirst
وأرعىand I tend منsome of الغزلانthe gazelles فيin الفلواتthe wildernesses
So I may drink the sky's water and quench my thirst,
So I drink heaven's water and am sated
And tend some of the gazelles in the wilderness,
And graze with the gazelles in nature's view
وألصقand I press أحشائيmy innards برملagainst the sand of زبالةٍZubālah
وآنسand I find companionship بالظلمانwith male ostriches والظبياتand female gazelles
And press my belly against Zubālah's sand,
I'll press my gut to Zubala's sand saturated
And find companionship with male ostriches and female gazelles?
And find company in darkness and beasts too
