And time has grown pleasant for you: drink and be merry.
And life is sweet for you, so drink and relish

يُبَشِّرُنَاbrings us glad tidings أَنَّهُthat it قَدْalready قَرُبْhas drawn near
And this is the herald of the new spring,
This is the herald of the new spring
Bringing us glad tidings that it has drawn near:
Bringing us tidings that it has drawn near
بَهَارٌnarcissus يَروقُdelights بِمِسْكٍwith musk ذَكِيٍّfragrant

Narcissus, delighting with fragrant musk,
A spring that delights with fine musk
And exquisite craftsmanship and wondrous form.
And wondrous making and marvelous nature
غصونُboughs الزَّبَرْجَدِchrysolite قَدْalready أَوْرَقَتْhave put forth leaves
لَنَاfor us فِضَّةًsilver نَوَّرَتْhas blossomed بالذَّهَبْwith gold
Boughs of chrysolite have sprouted
The branches of the barberry have leafed
Silver for us, blossoming with gold.
Giving us silver that shines with gold
إذاwhen جُمِعَتْthey are gathered فِيin جِبالِmountains of الحَرِيرِsilk
وقَامَتْand stand أَمامكbefore you مِثلَlike اللُّعَبْdolls
When they are gathered in mountains of silk,
When gathered on hills of silk
And stand before you like dolls,
And standing before you like playthings
فَمِنْso among حَقِّهاtheir rights أَنْthat تَرىthey see الشَّارِبينَthe drinkers
وَقَدْand already نَفَّقَتْhas flourished سُوقُهُمْtheir market بالنُّخَّبْwith quaffers
So their due is to behold the drinkers,
It is their due to see the drinkers
While their market has flourished with quaffers,
As their market overflows with finesse
وأَنْand that تَسْألواyou ask اللهَGod طُولَlength of البَقَاءِlife

لِعَبْدِfor ʿAbd (servant) المَلِيكِal-Malīk (the King) مَليكِking of العَرَبْthe Arabs
And for you to ask God for long life
That you may ask God for lasting days
For ʿAbd al-Malīk, king of the Arabs.
For the slave of the King, the King of Arabs
فلولاfor, were it not for مَحاسِنُهُhis virtues لَمْwould not تَرُقْdelight
ولولاand were it not for شمائِلُهُhis noble qualities لَمْwould not تَطِبْbe fragrant
For without his virtues, they would not charm,
For were it not for his beauties, life would not be sweet
And without his noble qualities, they would not be fragrant.
And were it not for his qualities, life would not relish
