Welcome glory, with your banner raised by it.

And secure safety, with your pledges safeguarded by it.

And seek out good fortune from horizon to horizon,

as glittering stars, above which stand your aspirations.

And open the doors of Time, whose keys

are either your swords against enemies or your favors.

How lavish the favors we won as our allotted shares,

in glory's reign, when your own shares won them.

For if your sword bears down on enemies, blazing

with fire, your generosity shines for us upon its blade.

And if every broad expanse of their lands becomes

forbidden to them, your sanctuary opens wide for us.

For you are like Time in its evening and its morning:

your daylight is ours; your darkness falls upon our enemies.

A night in which, when their eyes doze

at the mention of your pardon, your reprisals cry out among them.

And if their dream conjures up cavalry from you,

then your forbearance toward their offender is but a dream of you.

For such things, the All-Merciful brought forth from you for us

two lights whose worth your greatness magnified:

the exalter of your lofty realm and its choicest one.

This is your keen sword in battle, and that your banner.

And if your shoulders wear them on a day of favor,

then that is your most splendid signet, and this your pen.

Like victory and conquest, a union you bring together

for every troop of war-horses whose riders are your retainers.

And like reason and hopes in the man through whom you secured

a protective bond for kingship, your own bonds bound fast through him.

Your realm's noble one—no foot has held him back

from any endeavor in whose glory your own foot rose high.

You named him Mundhir, warner of enemies; may there be no lack

of conquests from him, nor may you lack glad tidings of him.

A striver, with your loftiest ranks within his reach,

and through him every worldly share of fortune within yours.

So his due is the pledge of one whose

sound judgment you do not distrust, nor does preference accuse you:

a servant who, on the day of Ashura, became its witness,

your words obeyed by him in every hearing.

By God, what a pledge of allegiance! Hearts were led to it

by the sound guidance of your judgment, or what your wisdom devised.

And let your eye rejoice in that with which you gladdened our eyes,

so long as your name resembles the name of rain and the name of life,

in a reign whose days are your servants in attaining glory,

and a garden of hopes whose fruits are your virtues,

lush with the song sung within its gardens

by the birds of your good fortune, while your steady rains pour over it.

And rise high; may all kings forever remain

with your hills rising above the lofty peaks of their mountains.

And may no hand lack you as a crown upon the reins,

nor may a stirrup whose ornament is your foot stand empty.
