    فالأَرضُ تشرِقُ من سنا إِشراقِها

    The stars of good fortune have risen from their horizons;

So the earth shines with the splendor of their radiance.

For the supreme chamberlain, directing a resolve

Linked to its Syria and its Iraq,

    فَمُنى مَساعِي شأْوِها بِلَحَاقِها

    With a crescent among the moons of guidance from Ya'rub;

So the hope of striving toward their reach is to catch up with them.

Rising over guidance in their fullness,

And rising over foes in their dark phase.

And he who rises like a new moon over petitioners with a palm

Whose pavilion's shade has embraced guidance and kingship.

Thus faith ripens from the dew of its lavish giving,

And unbelief trembles at the death dealt by its thunderstroke.

As al-Mansur's successor in his firm resolves,

And steeds run true to their bloodlines.

The necks of beauties gloried in him, though

He had bid for battle with farewell and parting from them.

Sipping dust clouds before their lips,

And embracing champions before embracing them.

The bright swords grew restless for him in their scabbards,

And the horses bent their necks toward him.

Gushing forth for his petitioners from a disposition

Through which the days increased their bounty.

Unveiling a might held in reserve

For war, should she bare her shin to him.

Souls among us would ransom him, having found in him

The sweet basil of hopes as they breathe in its scent.

And eyes have gathered around him, yearning—

If only they could carry him in their pupils!

In the garden of kingship, through which flows

The water of bliss, delighting the eye among its leaves.

And all things have grown more beautiful,

Even the grove's doves in their neck-rings.

O you who keep alive those who made the paths of guidance flourish,

May no bounty flow from horses after their thoroughbreds!
