Sow kindness on rugged ground and level,

and reap the unbelievers, captive and slain.

And seek from the All-Merciful a victory near at hand—

the greater it grows, the grander its culmination—

matching the praise and thanks you have offered.

And you have been true to God in word and deed,

and embraced all creation with kindness and generosity,

and encompassed the earth with rule and justice,

and dazzled land and sea with a character

all-embracing in bounty, yet singular in excellence.

With a brow that never shone upon a calamity

    darkening dawn without that calamity clearing;

and a right hand that pledged to whomever it watered

    never to tire of giving drink until he tires;

and with resolve that clothed the faith in might,

just as it had clothed polytheism in humiliation.

And a crescent in the sky of Tujib:

it gained glory's fullness the day it first appeared.

And a raincloud—scarcely had it been coaxed to rain

by your wind of victory when it poured.

A sword for striking, never pleased by ornaments,

yet you see it adorned with blood.

And a spearpoint that never tires of charging:

if you turned it toward death, it would not turn away.

Enamored of thrusting and striking, enthralled

at heart by war's beauty and coy allure,

his soul thus yearned amid the blaze of war,

and he defied reproach amid the crushing advance.

    لجسومِ الشِّرْكِ بالهامِ وَصْلا

    So perfect union means leaving

    no bond between polytheism's bodies and their heads;

    and unity's order means leaving

no gathering for unbelief in unbelief's lands.

He sprang upon lions before his cubhood was complete.

He pursued adversity until he made it drink

from death's cups, a first draught and a second.

And gave the water of the open plain blood to drink,

in torrents and downpours, like the bounty of his hands.

In a charge he told the spear, 'Gently!'

and in the fray he told the sword, 'Slowly!'

The foes faced him with their chests,

on which he wrote with the Khatti spear and dictated.

And he awarded the heads to the air above,

and the severed limbs to the dust below.

And he judged the tips of lofty spears

more entitled to heads than treacherous breasts.

So they drew near, while the rampart beckoned to them

and called to them, 'Welcome! Be at ease!'

    فَدَنا وَهْوَ من البَدْرِ أعلى

    And the eyes of all creation rose toward him;

he drew near, though higher than the full moon.

    حَرُّ نارِ اللهِ فيهِنَّ أصلى

    His foes were scorched by swords from him;

the heat of God's fire burned fiercer within them.

Through him Qahtan was exalted in glory,

and through him Ya'rub was ennobled in lineage.

And through him God made us know that we

shall see in his offspring an equal to you.
