لاdo not تَصْلَbe scorched by حَرَّthe heat of الهَجْرِestrangement منfor أَجْلِيmy sake
Say to Love: you have been made judge, so rule in my favor.
Say to passion "You have judged, so judge in my favor
Do not be scorched by estrangement's heat on my account.
Do not make separation's heat intense for me

Let not my two adversaries prevail before you, embodied in
Let not my rivals defeat me in your eyes
The watcher's eye and the tongues of reproach.
In the watcher's view or the tongues of the faultfinders
وأَصِخْand lend an ear لِمَظْلَمَتِيto my grievance فقدfor indeed وَضَحَتْit has become clear

And lend an ear to my grievance, for it has become clear.
Pay heed to my injustice, for it has become clear
And listen, for I have two upright witnesses.
And listen, for I have an impartial witness with me
أَأَجُودُshall I give freely? بالنَّفْسِwith the soul الَّتِيwhich كَرُمَتْis precious
لِرَشاًto a young gazelle يَضِنُّis miserly عَلَيَّtoward me بالوَصْلِwith union
Shall I freely give my precious soul
Shall I begrudge my soul that has honored
To a young gazelle who begrudges me union?
Meager affections that are miserly with union?
وشمائِلُand the virtues of المنصورِal-Mansur قَدْindeed قَطَعَتْhave ended

ظُلْمَthe oppression of الظَّلُومِthe oppressor وسُنَّةَand the practice of البُخْلِmiserliness
And al-Mansur's virtues have put an end to
And the qualities of al-Mansur have cut off
The oppressor's oppression and the practice of miserliness.
The injustice of the unjust and the habit of stinginess

بالسيفِwith the sword بَيْنَamid الخَيْلِthe cavalry والرَّجْلِand the foot soldiers
A king whose stand protected the faith
A king whose stance has protected religion
With the sword amid cavalry and foot soldiers.
With the sword amid horses and infantry
وأَجارَand sheltered خلقَthe creatures of اللهِGod فاعْتَرَفُواso they recognized

And he sheltered God's creatures, so they recognized him
And has protected God's creation, so they confessed
As a substitute for homelands and kin.
Compensation for homelands and families
وَوَفَتْand kept faith بعهدِwith the covenant of العِلْمِlearning ذِمَّتُهُhis pledge

And his pledge kept faith with learning's covenant,
And his pledge of knowledge has been fulfilled
Since one like him did not neglect one like me.
Since the likes of him does not fail the likes of me
