وَطِّنْsteel فؤادَكَyour heart إِنif كَانَis الرحيلُdeparture غَدَاtomorrow
إِنَّindeed الأَسىsorrow إِلْفُهُits companion منfrom بعدِهِمْafter them أَبَدَاforever
Steel your heart if departure is tomorrow;
Indeed, sorrow will be its companion forever once they are gone.
واندُبْand summon لتشييعِهِمْto escort them حَرَّthe heat الزفيرِof sighing ضُحىًat midmorning
وابعَثْand send دموعَكَyour tears فِيin آثارِهِits tracks مَدَدَاas reinforcements
And summon the heat of sighing to escort them at midmorning;
And send your tears as reinforcements in its wake.
والنَّفْسُand the soul إِنْif لَمْnot تَمُتْdie منfrom بعدِهِمْafter them كَمَداًof grief
ماتdies الوفاءُloyalty عَلَيْهاover it بَعْدَهُمْafter them كمدَاof grief
And if the soul does not die of grief after they are gone,
Loyalty will die of grief over it after them.
كَحَدِّlike the edge of سيفِكَyour sword يَاO منصورُMansur إِنif سَلِمَتْescape unharmed
منهُfrom it ملوكُkings العِدىof the enemies ماتواthey die لَهُof it حَسَدَاout of envy
Like your sword’s edge, O Mansur: if they escape
it, the enemy kings die of envy of it.
