If pure blood that you expend for praise should flow,

then rejoice: God will replace it with something more praiseworthy.

If you have freely given it to the air, the air carries it

as perfume to every soul, offering each a gift on your behalf.

For it has seen the earth reject and disown it,

since the earth knows only the blood of those who oppose you.

And through it the air has become a fresh, ungrazed meadow,

glorying in your bloom, while breaths pluck it.

So stay well: for if breaths have grown fragrant through it,

then something sweeter still within you will take its place.
