Tell the caliphate: You have attained your wishes

and seen what has delighted your eyes.

The Mahdi of Ahmad's community, its noble one,

and its forbearing one, comes to shelter in your abode,

and the scion of its very imam and its martyr—

your two moons in this world—what moons they are!

This one obtained early, through his Lord's bounty,

an abode in eternity, exalted above your own.

And you cried, 'Vengeance for him!' Then Muhammad

was the first to hear and answer you with the sword.

    Plunging into deadly perils, undaunted

by death, he vied with it to reach your face.

    وصل الإله سناءه بسناكِ

    So the world lit up at the very first instant;

God joined his radiance to yours.

You would accept no other, nor did he

ever wish to live for anyone but you.

How often, from you, in night's darkness, he was grieved

    by a mourner's wailing and a weeper's sigh,

until he confronted what befell you with a resolve

that the sickness which exhausted you could not exhaust.

In his hand was the sword with which his forefather was girded

at al-Marj, when al-Dahhak's hand came to ruin.

He strove and, after avenging you, won his own vengeance

from all who had held themselves beyond reach.

He laid open to plunder every sanctuary of every deceiver,

each errant man who had violated guidance's sanctuary and yours.

Thus he healed the souls of Muslims and his own

when he watered the world with your enemies' blood,

for the martyr of God's house and the king whose

noble, pure blood has no equal.

The earth put on its mourning garb for him,

and the stars of night appeared, weeping.

His heir thus attained the caliphate and splendor,

in defiance of every obstinate liar,

by decree of the Judge Most High, for one who sought

ever to avenge the blood of caliphs and kings,

until God's promise was fulfilled, a promise

whose assurances of swift fulfillment were plain.

O you who don, for your enemy and your friend,

the ferocity of lions and the restraint of ascetics!

How radiant the world is in your presence, through the might of the

upright faith and the abasement of polytheism!

If, because of you, the Goths' day is choked with their envoys,

then tomorrow comes the day of the Romans and the Turks.

They heard of your summons, at which they were called

    by their homelands: 'Leave! Leave!'

So terror is wholly theirs, joining

their night of repose to a day of combat,

with images of repeated thrusts into the kidneys

and visions of blows to the necks in swift succession.

So they made for you, and among their keenest weapons were

the mark of submission and the garb of the doomed,

seeking refuge from annihilation in the two flat sides

of a sword that unsparingly spills blood like theirs.

So it was as though their faces had waded toward you

through a fire blazing in arak brushwood,

until they beheld the caliphate's moon, surrounded

by the likes of the bright stars of the celestial spheres.

So conquer, and may the caliphate and guidance ever remain,

through your good fortune, armed with keen-edged weapons.

And drink from the cups of joy, and give her drink,

in ease through all your days: 'Give here!' and 'Take!'

    وأَنا الأَسيرُ وَفِي يديكَ فِكاكي

    And I am the outcast, and the shade of your might is my refuge;

and I am the captive, and in your hands lies my release.

Literary art that has illumined the two Easts, yet beneath it

a fortune that groans to you with a sufferer's groan.
