ومَحَقَand effaced الشهرُthe month كَمَالَthe perfection البَدْرِof the full moon
ومَحَقَ الشهرُ كَمَالَ البَدْرِ
فَلاحَso it gleamed فيin أُولىthe beginning of الصَّباحِthe morning النَّضْرِradiant
فَلاحَ في أُولى الصَّباحِ النَّضْرِ
And the month effaced the perfection of the full moon,
The month faded like the full moon's perfection
So it gleamed at the beginning of the radiant morning,
Dawn's first light shone brightly green
كأْنَّهas though it were قُرْطٌan earring بِأُذْنِin the ear of الفَجْرِdawn
كأْنَّه قُرْطٌ بِأُذْنِ الفَجْرِ
As though it were an earring in dawn's ear.
As though it were an earring on the ear of daybreak
