The rise of your fortune is a rise for Islam,

And the glory of your victory is humiliation for polytheism.

No one can overturn the decree already set forth

In judgments and deeds from God.

It has affirmed your right to the kingship whose

Inheritance kings and chieftains guaranteed to you.

And the glory whose beacon is raised is granted

Its due, while unrecognized falsehood is annulled.

So rejoice in possessing the keys to conquest, and may no

Hopes for Islam be disappointed through your striving.

No conquest equals this, whose summons' banners have become

Firmly planted through it, while polytheism's dune crumbles.

A conquest that, like its conqueror among men, has no

Equal among the earth's conquests of the past.

Through it, the world's robes have become new for us,

While the garb of the ruler of enemies and treachery is rags.

Our graybeards have grown young with joy at its mention,

While children among the polytheists have turned gray from the shame it brings.

And birds have sung joyfully in their branches,

While the singing of the birds of enemies and unbelief is wailing.

So tell him who raises banners through treachery:

What death and the enemies have gained from you is enough.

And tell him whose treachery failed him in its promise

That fullness would fail the radiant moon:

Far from it! A king has shone forth in the sky of greatness,

Abundant in word and deed, in justice and bounty.

And for hopes, true to his name, a reviver, full of life,

And a relentless slayer of sorrow, enemies, and oppression.

Unique in noble deeds, with neither likeness nor equal,

While all other people are likenesses and counterparts.

And he has shone forth toward the heights in robes

That bring kingship exaltation and reverence.

And met religion and Islam with qualities

In whose spontaneous bounty lie the hopes they asked for Islam.

And tell him whose experience of lions fell short,

So he doubted that a lion could succeed a lion:

Endure the strike of al-Muzaffar's claws—can

Any schemer turn them from your vitals today?

The waves of his seas have surged above him,

Until he knew for certain that the mirage had deceived him.

Ships made of horses, bearing no cargo

    Except swords, spears, and heroes.

Sons of terror and horrors, at whose approach

Terrors and horrors fill the eyes of death.

Firm in their stands: though beneath their feet

The earth's back should shift amid the dust, they would not move.

They summoned the fortresses of treachery to you, and they raced

Like stars, cascading upon your right hand.

Death had counted them its food, but ransom was paid for

Their numbers by substitutes from the sons of polytheism.

Strongholds that knew your right hand and acknowledged

The guilt of what the erring had done or said,

Admitting that you are their lord and king,

And that they are your gift and bounty

To him who took possession of them from us and lodged in them

Rancor; so they turned against him as shackles.

    قَلْبٌ غَوى بحجاهُ عنكَ تَذْهَالُ

    A man of honor, whose bird's omen strayed from that honor;

A heart astray in its judgment, heedless of you.

    فارْتَدَّ طائِرَ طَيْشٍ ذَلِكَ الفالُ

    It was an omen of dignity, by which he turned away from you;

But that omen became a bird of recklessness.

You thunderstruck his dwelling and homeland with victory,

So lowlands and mountains were shaken by it.

A thunderstroke whose tremor struck all unbelief,

And from it an earthquake rose in every act of treachery.

And God, O Yahya, made your swords the judges in

Reviving your rightful claim; the wronged man is fierce in assault.

So no confidant of unbelief spends the night on watch

Without your horses prancing within his eyelids.

No fearful man watches the stars of night

Without death's appointed hours and terrors as his two adversaries.

He spends a snakebitten man's night, sleepless with sorrow,

With fear of you as his bushel, he takes his full share and measures it.

If a calamity from you passes him by today,

Tomorrow still brings one plight, followed by another.

Indeed, the ally most destructive to the one allied with it

Is treachery, ever allied to the tyrant of polytheism.

So take pride: no beauty upon the earth's back

Is mentioned without bearing an image of you.

And rejoice: you are truth's spirit, and it has

No limbs or joints except those formed from victory.

And God guards a lord through whom we always have

Joyful acclaim for conquest after conquest.
