حبّيَ ما عابَهُ أصفرارُ

حبّيَ ما عابَهُ أصفرارُ

كلاَّ ولا شانَهُ انسطال

Yellow pallor has not marred my beloved;

My love, his pallor they reprove,

No, nor has intoxication blemished him.

Nay, nor his worth declines at all;

وما أرتعى الحشيش إلاَّ

لتَعلموا أنّه غَزالُ

And he grazed on hashish only

But the meadows don weeds, my love,

So that you may know he is a gazelle.
