Wine is served at your lips,

    and your cheek is rose-red.

And you indeed, O gazelle of the dunes,

are as elusive as the sleep you put to flight.

Do not deny killing me, for

my blood bears witness on your cheek.

O you who bear the sword of languor,

it is my blood you wear about your neck.

O paradise that has dwelt within the heart,

    while its fire blazes!

Why have I grown drunk with yearning

and passion, while you are the drunken reveler?
