وأهديتَ لي منكَ الغَداةَ مُرَكبّاً

وأهديتَ لي منكَ الغَداةَ مُرَكبّاً

غَدَوْتُ لَهُ إذْ جاءَني مُتَعَجِّبا

غَدَوْتُ لَهُ إذْ جاءَني مُتَعَجِّبا

And this morning you sent me a compound as a gift;

I became astonished at it when it came to me.

بَسيطٌ مِنَ الماءِ القراحِ بَعَثتَهُ

بَسيطٌ مِنَ الماءِ القراحِ بَعَثتَهُ

فَوا عجباً منه بسيطاً مُرَكبا

فَوا عجباً منه بسيطاً مُرَكبا

What you sent was a simple substance of pure water—

so, what a wonder it is: simple, yet compound!
