إذا بِتُّ منه ساهراً بالشاطي
A curse on a night I spent at the Khalij,
Alas for a night by the Gulf I spent awake
when I lay awake because of him on the shore.
Tossing and turning, sleepless on the shore

مَحشوَّةٌ بِغرائبِ الأخلاطِ
Al-Diya became my drinking companion, and his belly was, for me,
The light kept me company, yet left me lonesome
stuffed with strange mixtures.
Filled with strange thoughts in a jumbled mix

And, to my misfortune, we slept together in one bed,
My bedmate and I tossed and turned together
both wrapped in a rug upon the earth.
Sprawled on the ground atop a simple mat

His winds blew fiercely upon me, and I found them
The winds blew strong, rushing faster than
stronger in their blowing than the winds of February.
The gales of stormy February come

I would grow drowsy from inhaling his silent farts,
I'd been so drowsy until woken up
swooning—then he would wake me with the sound of noisy farting.
By the sudden banging sounds it brought

I kept inhaling a foul odor from him,
Still I breathed deep of its rancid scent
until my snot turned into shit.
Until my mucus turned to liquid out
