1. جاءَ العَفيفُ مُبَشِّراً

    وَهُوَ الدَّليلُ المرشِدُ

    Al-ʿAfīf came bearing glad tidings,

    and he is the guide who shows the way.

  2. والسُّحْبُ تَبرُقُ قبل أنْ

    تهبَ الغُيوثَ وترعدُ

    And the clouds flash with lightning before

    they bestow rains and rumble with thunder.

  3. فَلِذاكَ أُنشدُهُ وأبْ

    ناءُ الأماني تُنْشِدُ

    So I recite to him, and the sons

    of hopes recite:

  4. اليومَ عَهدُكُمُ وذا

    مَثَلٌ فأينَ الموعدُ

    Your pledge is for today, and this

    is a saying—so where is the appointed time?

  5. وَلِكُلِّ يومٍِ كالذي

    أَعددتموهُ لي غدُ

    And every day like the one

    you prepared for me has a tomorrow.
