والسيفand the sword يكهمgrows blunt الاexcept فيin يدhand البطلthe hero
Resolve takes effect only through one who carries it out;
No purpose is achieved save by the valiant,
and the sword grows blunt except in the hero’s hand.
No sword proves sharp save in the grip of heroes.

A brief doze he takes on the desert’s carpet
To him the cooing of a dove upon its perch
is sweeter to him than dozing beneath bed canopies.
Is sweeter than a bawling camel's loud outcry.

بالرملon the sand أطربmore enchanting ألحاناin melodies منthan الرّملthe ramal rhythm
And a burst of horses’ neighing he hears
The neighing of the steeds that fills his ears
on the sand is more enchanting in melody than the ramal rhythm.
Is lovelier than pipes heard at evening from afar.

O star, seekers of bounty drown in torrents
O star that sinks drunk sheikhs in sensual joy
from you, while enemies burn in flames.
While enemies are burned by thy hot rays!
لاnot يدركattain الناسpeople لوeven if رامواthey sought ولوand even if جهدواthey strove
بالريثwith deliberation بعضpart of الذيwhat أدركتyou attained بالعجلin haste
People cannot attain, even if they try and even if they strive,
Men fail to gain, strive hard as they may do,
by taking their time, even part of what you attained in haste.
A part of what thou graspest in hasty flight.
