I was shut out, yet not shut out from the dawn,

and the lovelorn one's night is slow to depart.

Sickness spent the night lurking in my bones,

as death lurks in the edge of broad swords.

I clothed in praise a man of inviolate honor,

granted enjoyment in the sanctuary of wealth open to all:

playful in speech, his gifts cut short,

unbridled in resolve, mad in generosity.

When tall spears clash over sovereignty,

you brandish an unyielding weapon with an ornamented wing.

It pours death's spittle upon the blade-edges,

and lines the spears' eyes with death as kohl.
