وبديعةٍ سلت مزاحي

وبديعةٍ سلت مزاحي

My father be ransom for the charms with which you visited me,

With the beauty that graced me,

and for a marvel that drew forth my jesting,

And the playful wit that beguiled,

وخلائق كالنور با

ح بسره نفس الصباح

ح بسره نفس الصباح

and qualities like light,

With virtues bright as the dawn's light,

whose secret the breath of dawn revealed;

That gladdens the heart each morn.

وخلائقٍ لو صورت

وخلائقٍ لو صورت

سكنت أنابيبُ الرماح

سكنت أنابيبُ الرماح

and qualities—were they given form,

With graces that, were they captured in art,

the shafts of spears would grow still.

Would reside in the spear's straight frame.

كشفت ضباب حديقتي

كشفت ضباب حديقتي

وأجابها مزن اقتراحي

وأجابها مزن اقتراحي

It cleared the mist from my garden,

You parted the mists in my garden,

and the rain clouds of my invention answered it;

And met my request with favor.

فأتت تخايل في نظا

فأتت تخايل في نظا

م هز أعطاف ارتياحي

م هز أعطاف ارتياحي

so it came, strutting in verse

You came to me in my dreams,

that shook the flanks of my delight.

Shaking the boughs of my delight.
