من سأل الله في أمور

عن أمره لم يخب سؤالهْ

عن أمره لم يخب سؤالهْ

Whoever asks God concerning matters

He who asked of God for matters

at His command—his request will not fail.

About His will did not fail in his request

وجاءه في الجوابِ منه

وجاءه في الجوابِ منه

ما فيه أن حققوا كمالهْ

ما فيه أن حققوا كمالهْ

And there came to him, in the answer from Him,

And he received in answer from Him

that which says: “Affirm His perfection.”

What in it accomplished his perfection

إن الذي تنتهي المعالي

إن الذي تنتهي المعالي

في كلِّ شيء له مآله

في كلِّ شيء له مآله

Indeed, that to which lofty attainments lead

Indeed, the ultimate of glories

in everything is its final destination.

In everything has its consequence

وليس بعد الكمال نقصٌ

وليس بعد الكمال نقصٌ

إن أنت أنصفتني مثاله

إن أنت أنصفتني مثاله

And there is no deficiency after perfection;

And after perfection there is no defect

if you treat me fairly, its example is:

If you judge me rightly in its likeness

عبد وربٌّ هل ثم غير

عبد وربٌّ هل ثم غير

قد انتهى عينُه وحاله

قد انتهى عينُه وحاله

a servant and a Lord—is there any other

A servant and a Lord - is there anything else?

whose essence and state have reached completion?

His essence and state have ended

لله قومٌ لما ذكرنا

لله قومٌ لما ذكرنا

تحققوا فيه هم رجاله

تحققوا فيه هم رجاله

God has a people who, regarding what we mentioned,

For God there are people when we mentioned

have attained realization in it: they are His men.

They realized through Him, they are His men

في كلِّ حال لهم جودٌ

في كلِّ حال لهم جودٌ

فهم لما قلته عياله

فهم لما قلته عياله

In every state, theirs is generosity;

In every state they have generosity

so, regarding what I said, they are His dependents.

So what I said, they are its dependents

عار عليهم فما حواهم

عار عليهم فما حواهم

في ذكره غيره مقاله

في ذكره غيره مقاله

Shame upon them: they have not been encompassed

A disgrace be upon them, yet He sheltered them

in mentioning Him by anyone else's utterance.

In mentioning Him, not another's words

وكلُّ شخصٍ على انفراد

وكلُّ شخصٍ على انفراد

من مثله قد حماه ماله

من مثله قد حماه ماله

And each person, on his own,

And each person, singularly

his wealth has protected him from his like.

From the like of him has protected his wealth

بالمالِ مالَ الورى إليه

بالمالِ مالَ الورى إليه

لذاك يرجوهمُ نواله

لذاك يرجوهمُ نواله

Through wealth, mankind inclined toward him;

With wealth, the wealth of the world to Him

for that reason, his bounty hopes for them.

Thus they hope from Him favor

وما لهم في الرجاءِ عينٌ

وما لهم في الرجاءِ عينٌ

ومَن له لم يزلْ وباله

ومَن له لم يزلْ وباله

And they have no presence in hope;

They have no eye in hoping

and whoever has it—his affliction never ceases.

And he who has did not cease to be tested

وليس ذاك الشخيصُ منهم

وليس ذاك الشخيصُ منهم

وهو الذي لم يخب سؤاله

وهو الذي لم يخب سؤاله

And that individual is not among them;

That individual is not of them

he is the one whose request did not fail.

He who did not fail his request

لم يفتقر في الورى إليهم

لم يفتقر في الورى إليهم

لأنه لم يقم جماله

لأنه لم يقم جماله

He had no need of them among mankind,

He did not need from them in the world

because his beauty did not depend

For his perfection did not stand

بهم فلم يعرفوا كراماً

بهم فلم يعرفوا كراماً

فحاله بينهم خلالُه

فحاله بينهم خلالُه

on them; so they were not known as generous.

Through them so they did not know generosity

Thus his state among them is his character.

Thus his state separated him from them
