فنى وجودي وغاب نجمي

When the secret appeared in my heart,

When the secret shone in my heart,

My existence ceased, and my star vanished.

My existence vanished and my star waned.

وحال قلبي بسرِّ ربي

وحال قلبي بسرِّ ربي

وغبتُ عن رسم حسِّ جسمي

وغبتُ عن رسم حسِّ جسمي

And my heart was transformed by my Lord's secret,

My heart was immersed in the secret of my Lord,

And I vanished from the trace of my body's sensation.

And I was absent from the form of my senses.

وجئتُ منه به إليه

وجئتُ منه به إليه

في مركب من سِنيّ عزمي

في مركب من سِنيّ عزمي

And I came from Him, through Him, to Him,

I came to Him through it from Him,

In a vessel of my lofty resolve.

In a ship made of the aged wood of my resolve.

نشرتُ فيه قلاعَ فكري

نشرتُ فيه قلاعَ فكري

في لُجةٍ من خفيِّ علمي

في لُجةٍ من خفيِّ علمي

I unfurled in it the sails of my thought,

I spread in it the castles of my thoughts,

In a deep sea of my hidden knowledge.

In an ocean of my hidden knowledge.

هَّبتْ عليه رياحُ شوقي

هَّبتْ عليه رياحُ شوقي

فمرّ في البحر مَرَّ سهم

فمرّ في البحر مَرَّ سهم

The winds of my longing blew upon it,

The winds of my passion blew upon it,

So it sped through the sea like an arrow.

So it passed in the sea like an arrow.

فجزتُ بحرَ الدنوِّ حتى

فجزتُ بحرَ الدنوِّ حتى

أبصرت جهراً من لا اسمي

أبصرت جهراً من لا اسمي

So I crossed the sea of nearness until

I crossed the sea of nearness until

I beheld plainly the One I do not name.

I saw an intimate vision of the Nameless.

وقلتُ يا من رآه قلبي

وقلتُ يا من رآه قلبي

أضربُ في حبكم بسهم

أضربُ في حبكم بسهم

And I said: O You whom my heart has seen,

And I said, "O You whom my heart saw,

I take a share in Your love.

I shoot my love for You with an arrow.

فأنت أُنسي ومهرجاني

فأنت أُنسي ومهرجاني

وغايتي في الهوى وغُنمي

وغايتي في الهوى وغُنمي

For You are my solace and my festival,

You are my intimate friend and festival,

And my goal in love and my gain.
