ما لقومي عن وجودي قد عموا

أترى أدركهم فيه صممْ

أترى أدركهم فيه صممْ

What ails my people, that they have grown blind to my existence?

My people are oblivious to my existence

Do you think deafness has overtaken them concerning it?

Are they afflicted by deafness?

إنني عرفتُ هوداً بالذي

إنني عرفتُ هوداً بالذي

أنا فيه من سرور وألمْ

أنا فيه من سرور وألمْ

Indeed, I came to know Hūd through the state

I knew the joy and sorrow

of joy and pain in which I dwell.

Of what I experience

فالذي يدري الذي أقصده

فالذي يدري الذي أقصده

كلما قلتُ ألا قال ألم

كلما قلتُ ألا قال ألم

So the one who knows what I intend,

Whoever understands what I mean

whenever I say 'Behold!', says 'Did ... not?'

Whenever I say "Oh sorrow!" says "Sorrow!"

ما لهم لم يعرفوا أو يسمعوا

ما لهم لم يعرفوا أو يسمعوا

أنني أمشي على النهج الأمم

أنني أمشي على النهج الأمم

What ails them, that they have not known or heard

Why did they not know or hear

that I walk upon the straight path?

That I walk the path of nations?

وهمُ يمشون بي في أثري

وهمُ يمشون بي في أثري

فهمُ حيث أنا من غير لم

فهمُ حيث أنا من غير لم

And they walk through me in my footsteps;

They walk behind me in my footsteps

thus they are where I am, without a 'why?'

So they are where I am without blame

والذي أخبر عني بالذي

والذي أخبر عني بالذي

قلته ليس من أرباب التهم

قلته ليس من أرباب التهم

And the one who conveyed on my behalf what

Who informed about what I said

I said is not one to be suspected.

Is no spreader of rumors

هو هود والذي أخبركم

هو هود والذي أخبركم

أحمد المبعوث في خير الأمم

أحمد المبعوث في خير الأمم

He is Hūd, and the one who informed you

He is Hud and who told you

is Aḥmad, sent among the best of nations.

Is Ahmad sent among the best of nations

لا تقولوا إنه من عرب

لا تقولوا إنه من عرب

إن هوداً ليس من أهل العجم

إن هوداً ليس من أهل العجم

Do not say that he is of the Arabs;

Do not say he is an Arab

indeed, Hūd is not of the non-Arabs.

For Hud is not one of the non-Arabs

إنني ترجمتُ عنه بالذي

إنني ترجمتُ عنه بالذي

قاله للناس عني وحَكَم

قاله للناس عني وحَكَم

Indeed, I spoke on his behalf through what

I translated what he said

he said to the people about me and decreed.

To people about me and judged

فاشكروا الله الذي أظهركم

فاشكروا الله الذي أظهركم

عن ثبوتِ هو في عينِ العدم

عن ثبوتِ هو في عينِ العدم

So thank God, who made you manifest

Thank God who showed you

from a fixity that is in the very essence of nonexistence.

The proof of Hud in the eye of nonexistence

فأنا الظاهر لا أنتَ بما

فأنا الظاهر لا أنتَ بما

أنت في نفسك من حمدٍ وذم

أنت في نفسك من حمدٍ وذم

So I am the manifest one, not you, in the

For I am the Apparent, not you

praise and blame within your own self.

By what you are within yourself of praise and blame

لا تبالي إنكم في عدم

لا تبالي إنكم في عدم

وأنا الكل حوثاً وقِدم

وأنا الكل حوثاً وقِدم

Do not be troubled: you all are in nonexistence,

Do not care that you are in nonexistence

and I am the whole, in [temporal origination] and eternity.

While I am the All, present and eternal

ما لكم في عين كوني أثرٌ

ما لكم في عين كوني أثرٌ

لا و لا عين وحكم وقدم

لا و لا عين وحكم وقدم

There is no trace of you in the very essence of my being—

What trace do you have in the eye of my existence?

no, nor any entity, authority, or eternity.

No! Nor an eye, nor judgment, nor eternity

إن أسمائي بكم قد حكمت

إن أسمائي بكم قد حكمت

في وجودي فلنا كيف وكم

في وجودي فلنا كيف وكم

Indeed, my names have ruled through you

My names have judged you

in my existence; thus ours are quality and quantity.

In my existence, so we have "how" and "why"
