ماwhat لقومٍwith a people إذاwhen تفكرتُI reflected فيهمupon them
لاnot يكادونthey almost يفقهونthey comprehend حديثاspeech
What ails a people, when I reflect upon them,
What a people when I think of them
that they can scarcely understand any speech?
They hardly understand any talk
همthey بعينِin the very essence of القديمِthe Eternal فيin كلِّevery حالٍstate
يطلبونthey seek الوجودَexistence منهfrom Him حَثيثاeagerly
They are in the Eternal's very essence in every state,
With an eye to the past in everything
seeking existence from Him eagerly.
Eagerly seeking existence from it
فيبثُّونso they spread علمَهHis knowledge لشخوصٍto persons
ماnot لديهمin their possession علمٌknowledge بذاكof that نثيثاscattered abroad
So they spread His knowledge to persons—
So they spread its knowledge to persons
who have no knowledge of it—scattering it abroad.
Who have no knowledge of that at all
قلتI said للعيسويّto the ʿĪsawī (one associated with Jesus) فيكin you انتباهattentiveness
للذيto what قلتهI said it فقالthen he said كميثاKamīthā (meaning unclear)
I said to the ʿĪsawī, 'You are attentive
I said to the Christian be attentive
to what I said'; then he replied, 'Kamīthā.'
To what I said but he spoke nonsense
