To you I came, O my lord, with purpose,
To You I come, my Master, seeking
On a Shadani she-camel, hastening and yearning.
Relief from pangs of love that stab and sting.
وفيكand for your sake تركتI left ماwhat لاnot كنتI was فيهin it

And for your sake I left what I had not been engaged in
In You I leave what I no more can bear-
Managing, along with loved ones and a child.
My hopes, my friends, my children, everything.

Things became distinct when they were made clear
When truth's made plain, all other things must fade-
To one with two eyes, through proof and definition.
Eyes that can see need no explaining.

If ever distance turns into nearness,
When far turns near, past distance disappears-
Then the boundary's distance never ceases to be distance.
No end remains if endlessness is ending.

I strung together the rhymes of words when
With words as bricks I built a poem's form
I sought to praise you, necklace after necklace.
To shape the praise my heart is rendering.
فقامتso there arose نشأةٌa creation حسناًbeauty لعينto an eye
وزَهراًand blossoms فيin الرياضِthe gardens شذاًfragrance ومَلداand tenderness
So a creation arose, beautiful to the eye,
It took fair shape-a vision to delight
And blossoms in the gardens, fragrant and tender.
The eyes, a flower-garden brightly blooming.
