صفاتُ الأولياء تزول عنهم

صفاتُ الأولياء تزول عنهم

ويأخذها الشقُّ هناك منهم

ويأخذها الشقُّ هناك منهم

The saints’ attributes fall away from them,

The qualities of the righteous depart from them,

And the other half takes them from them there.

And hardship takes hold of them there.

كما نابَ السعيدُ هنا زمانا

كما نابَ السعيدُ هنا زمانا

تنوبُ الأشقياء هناك عنهم

تنوبُ الأشقياء هناك عنهم

Just as the blessed one stood in here for a time,

Just as the fortunate ones enjoyed life here for a while,

The wretched stand in for them there.

The wretched take their place there.

فما لجأوا إلى الراحاتِ إلا

فما لجأوا إلى الراحاتِ إلا

وكان الأمر فيهم من لدنهم

وكان الأمر فيهم من لدنهم

So they never sought refuge in comforts except

They sought rest only

When the matter within them came from themselves.

Because that was destined for them.

وإنْ طلبوا المعونةَ من إمام

وإنْ طلبوا المعونةَ من إمام

به كفؤ هنالك لم يعنهم

به كفؤ هنالك لم يعنهم

And if they sought help from an imam

And if they sought aid from a leader

Who was fit for it, he did not help them there.

Worthy of helping them there, he did not avail them.

بنيّ إذ رأيتهمُ سُكارى

بنيّ إذ رأيتهمُ سُكارى

فمل معهم وبشرهم وصُنهم

فمل معهم وبشرهم وصُنهم

My dear son, when you see them drunk,

My son, when you see them intoxicated,

Then incline with them, give them glad tidings, and protect them.

Join them, give them good news, and protect them.

إذا عجز الرجالُ بأنْ يكونوا

إذا عجز الرجالُ بأنْ يكونوا

على تحقيقهم منهم فكنهم

على تحقيقهم منهم فكنهم

If men are unable to be

When men fail to truly be

Among them in their realization, then be them.

What they aspired to be, then be that for them.
