The nūn is like the ʿayn in “anṭā” and “aʿṭāhu.”

A variant pronunciation that sacred law brought him and bestowed upon him.

A letter is substituted for a letter that resembles it

In the nearness of its articulation point; thus it matched it.

Yet this is distant—how, then, does the matter stand here? Say:

That it is part of ʿayn when he named it.

Then he said: the ʿayn too is like it, and likewise

Sīn and shīn; why did the ʿayn adorn it?

The ʿayn encompassed all the souls of the cosmos,

Thoroughly, and made them real; that is its meaning.

And for anything other than it, the matter is not so.

For that mystery, the master of speech unveiled it.

So it has become clear that the ʿayn flows

Through everything; for this mystery he brought it nearer,

Into proximity, then replaced it with nūn, as a concession,

In every being that desires the Real, he made it manifest.
