فإذا كنت معي أنت معي

فلتع الأمر الذي جئت به

فلتع الأمر الذي جئت به

يا حبيبَ القلبِ حقاً فلتع

يا حبيبَ القلبِ حقاً فلتع

So understand the matter you have brought.

Listen to what I have come with

O beloved of the heart, truly, understand.

O beloved of my heart, listen

أنا إلاَّ واحدُ العصر به

أنا إلاَّ واحدُ العصر به

ما أنا فيه شخيصٌ مدَّعي

ما أنا فيه شخيصٌ مدَّعي

Through it, I am but the unique one of the age.

I am the only one of my time with it

In it, I am no imposing pretender.

I am not in it a pretentious person

فخذِ الأمر الذي تعرفه

فخذِ الأمر الذي تعرفه

من وجودي ثم إنْ شئتَ دع

من وجودي ثم إنْ شئتَ دع

So take the matter that you know

Take what you know

From my being; then, if you wish, leave it.

Of my existence, then if you wish, leave

ما أنا غير ولا أعرفه

ما أنا غير ولا أعرفه

للذي قلت له أنت معي

للذي قلت له أنت معي

I am no other, nor do I know an other,

What I am not and do not know

To the one to whom I said, 'You are with me.'

To whom I said you are with me

قلت للنفسِ وقد قيل لها

قلت للنفسِ وقد قيل لها

مثل ما قيل من ألعب وأرتع

مثل ما قيل من ألعب وأرتع

I told the soul—which had already been told

I said to the self and it was told

Such sayings as 'Play and frolic'—

Like what was said, I joke and frolic

ما سمعتم ما جرى من خبر

ما سمعتم ما جرى من خبر

منهمُ بالله يا نفس اسمعي

منهمُ بالله يا نفس اسمعي

What you had heard—the news that came

You did not hear what happened of news

From them. By God, O soul, listen!

From them by God, O self, listen

واحذر المنكر الذي تعرفه

واحذر المنكر الذي تعرفه

إذ تحليتَ به لا تخدع

إذ تحليتَ به لا تخدع

And beware the wrong that you recognize;

And beware of the denial you know

When you adorn yourself with it, do not be deceived.

When you are adorned with it, do not deceive

لستُ أبكي لفراقٍ أبداً

لستُ أبكي لفراقٍ أبداً

لشهودي حالة من موضعي

لشهودي حالة من موضعي

I never weep over separation,

I do not cry for eternal separation

For I witness a state from where I stand.

For my witnessing a state from my position

فحبيبي نصبَ عيني أبدا

فحبيبي نصبَ عيني أبدا

فسواء غاب أو كان معي

فسواء غاب أو كان معي

For my beloved is always before my eyes,

So my beloved is right before my eyes forever

So it is the same whether he is absent or with me.

So whether he is absent or is with me

جل أمري أنَّ عيني معه

جل أمري أنَّ عيني معه

أينما كان فطبْ واستمع

أينما كان فطبْ واستمع

My chief concern is that my eye is with him

The crux of my matter is that my eyes are with him

Wherever he is; so be glad and listen.

Wherever he is, good wishes and listen
