طَلَعَتshe rose بَينَbetween أَذرِعاتٍAdhriʿāt وَبَصرىand Bosra
طَلَعَت بَينَ أَذرِعاتٍ وَبَصرى
بِنتُa maiden of عَثرٍstumbling (apparently a typo for 'ten') وَأَربَعٍand four لِيَto me بَدراa full moon
بِنتُ عَثرٍ وَأَربَعٍ لِيَ بَدرا
She rose between Adhriʿāt and Bosra,
She emerged between arms as my sight
A maiden of fourteen, a full moon to me.
The daughter of accident and for me a full moon
قَدindeed تَعالَتshe has risen above عَلىabove الزَمانِtime جَلالاًin majesty
قَد تَعالَت عَلى الزَمانِ جَلالاً
وَتَسامَتand she soared عَلَيهِabove it فَخراًin glory وَكِبراand pride
وَتَسامَت عَلَيهِ فَخراً وَكِبرا
She has risen above time in majesty,
She has transcended time with majesty
And soared above it in glory and pride.
And towered over it with pride and greatness
كُلُّevery بَدرٍfull moon إِذاwhen تَناهىreaches its utmost كَمالاًperfection
كُلُّ بَدرٍ إِذا تَناهى كَمالاً
جاءَهُcomes upon it نَقصُهُits waning لِيَكمُلَso it may become complete شَهراa month
جاءَهُ نَقصُهُ لِيَكمُلَ شَهرا
Every full moon, when it reaches perfection,
Every full moon when it reaches its peak
Is overtaken by its waning, to complete a month.
Its deficiency comes to complete a month
غَيرَexcept هذيthis one فَماso there are no لَهاfor her حَرَكاتٌmovements
غَيرَ هذي فَما لَها حَرَكاتٌ
فيin بُروجٍzodiacal signs فَماso not تُشَفِّعُshe makes even وِتراan odd number
في بُروجٍ فَما تُشَفِّعُ وِترا
Except this one: she has no movements
But she has no motions in constellations
Through zodiacal signs, so she does not make the odd even.
So she intercedes not by fate
حُقَّةٌa small casket أودِعَتwas filled with عَبيراًperfume وَنَشراand fragrance
حُقَّةٌ أودِعَت عَبيراً وَنَشرا
رَوضَةٌa garden أَنبَتَتbrought forth رَبيعاًspring وَزَهراand blossoms
رَوضَةٌ أَنبَتَت رَبيعاً وَزَهرا
A casket filled with perfume and fragrance,
A capsule that contained fragrance and strewing
A garden that brought forth spring and blossoms.
A garden that sprouted spring and flowers
اِنتَهىhas reached الحُسنُbeauty فيكِin you أَقصىthe utmost مَداهُits extent
اِنتَهى الحُسنُ فيكِ أَقصى مَداهُ
ماthere is no لِوُسعِwithin the scope of الإِمكانِpossibility مِثلُكَlike you أُخرىanother
ما لِوُسعِ الإِمكانِ مِثلُكَ أُخرى
In you, beauty has reached its utmost extent;
The utmost limit of beauty has ended in you
Within the scope of possibility, there is no other like you.
The realm of possibility has none other like you
