قل لمن قال لنا

اتبعوا رسْلنا

Say to whoever said to us:

“Follow our messengers.”

اعلمن أن بنا

يندفعوا نحونا

Know indeed that through us

they are driven toward us.

فالزمن

قول أنا

So hold fast to

the utterance “I,”

إن شرعوا

سْبلنا

if they lay down

our paths.

العوالُ لمن علا قدراً على القانت

واستمالَ من قال لا لفرعه النابت

The heights belong to whoever rose in rank above the devout one,

and won over whoever said “No” to his sprouting branch.

سادتي الترمذي

عرفكم حيلتي

My masters, al-Tirmidhi

has made my stratagem known to you.

قادتي جاء الذي

صيَّركم جملتي

My leaders, there has come the one

who made you my entirety.

عادتي من كل ذي

علم لكم بغيتي

My custom, from every possessor

of knowledge, is my quest for you.

يا موال أنتم على

ما قلتُ للصامت

O patrons, you hold to

what I said to the silent one,

من نوال ومن إلى

لعاذلٍ شامت

of bounty and of favor,

for a gloating reproacher.
