الحمد لله بأسمائه
الظاهرthe Manifest الباطنthe Hidden عنfrom خلقهِHis creation
الظاهر الباطن عن خلقهِ
Praise be to God by His names,
Praise be to God with His names
The Manifest, the Hidden from His creation,
The Manifest, the Hidden from His creation
فيin خلقهHis creation فكلهمfor all of them عينهHis very essence
في خلقه فكلهم عينه
لذاكfor that reason أجراهHe made it proceed علىupon وفقهaccord with Him
لذاك أجراه على وفقه
Within His creation—for they are all His very essence.
In His creation, so all of them are His eye
For that reason He made it proceed in accord with Himself.
Therefore He regulated it according to His ordinance
نحيىwe are given life بهthrough Him أعضاءlimbs إنسانهاof its human being
نحيى به أعضاء إنسانها
وهوand He لناto us كالمسكlike musk فيin حقهits casket
وهو لنا كالمسك في حقه
Through Him we are given life, as limbs of its human being.
We live by it, the members of His human
And to us He is like musk in its casket.
And He is for us like musk in His right
تشبيههlikening Him الرؤيةthe act of seeing لاnot عينهHis very essence
تشبيهه الرؤية لا عينه
كالشمسِlike the sun أوor كالبدرlike the full moon فيin أفقهits horizon
كالشمسِ أو كالبدر في أفقه
The comparison concerns seeing Him, not His essence,
His similitude of sight, not His eye
Like the sun, or like the full moon on its horizon.
Like the sun or like the full moon on its horizon
منwhoever فهمunderstands المرthe matter (apparently الأمر) الذيthat قلتهI said it
من فهم المر الذي قلته
صيرplaced عينthe very essence of الغربthe west فيin شرقهits east
صير عين الغرب في شرقه
Whoever understands the matter I have spoken of
Whoever understood the matter I have said
Has placed the very west within its east.
Will make the West's eye in its East
