1. الحمد لله حمداً

    يربي على كل حمد

    Praise be to God—a praise

    surpassing every praise,

  2. بأنه يتعالى

    حال النزول لوعد

    for He is exalted

    even as He descends to fulfill a promise.

  3. نزولُ ربي علو

    منه إلى كلِّ عبد

    My Lord's descent is exaltation

    from Him to every servant.

  4. وإنما جاء عندي

    لما تقدم عهدي

    And He came to me only

    because my covenant had come first.

  5. وفيتُ لله عهداً

    لذاك وفى بعهدي

    I kept a covenant with God;

    for that, He was faithful to my covenant.

  6. حدُّ الإله تعالى

    مجداً على كلِّ حدّ

    God's limit is exalted

    in glory above every limit.

  7. وكلُّ حدٍّ فمنه

    فلستُ في ذاك وحدي

    And every limit is from Him,

    so in that I am not alone.

  8. لما أتيت إليه

    سعيا لصدرٍ ووردِ

    When I came to Him,

    hastening, to depart and arrive,

  9. أتى بضعف مجيئي

    إليه من غير حدّ

    He came with twice the measure of my coming

    to Him, without limit.

  10. سبحانه وتعالى

    عن كل معنى مؤدي

    Glory be to Him, and exalted is He

    above every meaning leading

  11. إلى حدوثٍ وحدٍّ

    وذاك علمي وعقدي

    to coming into being and limitation.

    And that is my knowledge and my creed.

  12. إنَّ الحدود التي في

    كلامه المتعدِّي

    Indeed, the limits that are in

    His speech, which extends

  13. بكل نفعٍ إلينا

    فإن ذلك عندي

    to us with every benefit—

    for that, in my view...
