حدّث الشيخُ أبونا
عن أبيه عن قتادَهْ
Our father, the shaykh, related
from his father, from Qatadah,
عن عطاءِ بنِ يسارٍ
عن سعيد بن عُباده
from ʿAtaʾ ibn Yasar,
from Saʿid ibn ʿUbadah:
إنَّ مَن مات محبّاً
فله أجر الشهاده
“Indeed, whoever dies in love
shall have the reward of martyrdom.”
ثم قد ججاء بأخرى
مثل هذا وزياده
Then he brought another account,
like this, and more,
عن فُضيلِ بن عياض
وهو من أهل الزياده
from Fudayl ibn ʿIyad,
and he is among the people of increase:
إن من مات خليّا
كانت النار مهاده
“Indeed, whoever dies without love
shall have the Fire as his bed.”
