ياO أيهاyou الناسpeople خافواfear اللهGod واعتمدواand rely
يا أيها الناس خافوا الله واعتمدوا
عليهon Him فيin كلِّevery حالٍstate إنكمindeed, you صبرُsteadfast ones
عليه في كلِّ حالٍ إنكم صبرُ
O people, fear God and rely
O people, fear God and rely
On Him in every state; indeed, you are steadfast.
On Him at all times, you are patient
ولاand not يزالُceases وجودُthe being الحقِّof the Real عينكمyour very essence
ولا يزالُ وجودُ الحقِّ عينكم
فيin هذهthis الدارabode حتىuntil ينقضيends العمرُthe lifespan
في هذه الدار حتى ينقضي العمرُ
And the being of the Real remains your very essence
And the existence of truth is still in your eyes
In this abode until life's span ends.
In this world until life ends
إذاwhen نُقلتمyou are transferred إلىto الأخرىthe other abode فإنَّthen indeed لكمfor you
إذا نُقلتم إلى الأخرى فإنَّ لكم
فيهاwithin it شؤوناًaffairs يراهاhe sees them منwhoever لهhas نظرinsight
فيها شؤوناً يراها من له نظر
When you are transferred to the other abode, you will have
When you move to the next, you will have
Affairs within it that whoever has insight sees
In it affairs that the one with insight sees
هناكthere والمؤمنونand the believers العالمونthose who know بهاof them
هناك والمؤمنون العالمون بها
يرونهاthey see them بعيونwith eyes ماnot لهاthey have بصرsight
يرونها بعيون ما لها بصر
There; and the believers who know of them
There the believers and the knowledgeable see them
See them with eyes that have no sight.
With eyes that have no vision
فيهاin it الكمالthe perfection الذيthat which بالنشىءthrough coming into being أطلبهI seek it
فيها الكمال الذي بالنشىء أطلبه
فيهاin it المنافعthe benefits ماnot فيهاin it لناfor us ضررharm
فيها المنافع ما فيها لنا ضرر
In it is the perfection I seek through coming into being.
In it is the perfection that I seek with prosperity
In it are benefits; in it there is no harm for us.
In it are benefits, nothing in it harms us
قدindeed خُصwere singled out بالضرّfor harm أقوامٌsome people ذووpossessors of أعمهblind bewilderment (unclear form)
قد خُص بالضرّ أقوامٌ ذوو أعمه
فيin دارan abode خزيdisgrace لهمfor them فيهاwithin it بماbecause كفرواthey disbelieved
في دار خزي لهم فيها بما كفروا
Some people, possessed of blind bewilderment [unclear wording], have been singled out for harm
Some people of blindness have been afflicted with harm
In an abode where disgrace is theirs because they disbelieved.
In the house of disgrace, for their disbelief they have
جاءتcame سعادتهمtheir happiness تمشيwalking علىupon قدمٍa foot
جاءت سعادتهم تمشي على قدمٍ
فيماin what ابتلاهمHe tested them بهwith it لوif أنهمthat they صبرواwere patient
فيما ابتلاهم به لو أنهم صبروا
Their happiness would have come walking on foot,
Their happiness came walking on one foot
In what He tested them with, had they been patient.
While the affliction that befell them, had they been patient
أعماهمHe blinded them اللهGod عنto أمرa matter لهfor it خلفواthey were left behind
أعماهم الله عن أمر له خلفوا
حتىso that يكونcomes to be الذيthat which يأتيcomes بهwith it القدرdestiny
حتى يكون الذي يأتي به القدر
God blinded them to a matter for which they were left behind,
God blinded them from a matter they abandoned
So that what destiny brings might come to pass.
Until what fate brings comes
أشقاهمHe made them wretched اللهGod فيin أشياءthings تسرّهمُdelight them
أشقاهم الله في أشياء تسرّهمُ
قدalready زينتwere adorned لهمُfor them فيهمwithin them وماand not شحرواunclear; possibly 'they perceived'
قد زينت لهمُ فيهم وما شحروا
God made them wretched through things that delight them,
God made them miserable in things that delight them
Already adorned for them within themselves, yet they did not perceive [conjectural reading].
Adorned for them while they swelled with pride
لوif أنهمthat they صبرواwere patient ماnot كانwould have been حالهمُtheir state
لو أنهم صبروا ما كان حالهمُ
إلاexcept السعادةhappiness والإسعادand bestowing happiness والظفرand triumph
إلا السعادة والإسعاد والظفر
Had they been patient, their state would have been nothing
Had they been patient their state
But happiness, the bestowal of happiness, and triumph.
Would only be happiness, prosperity and triumph
