O my two dear friends, stop by the sanctuary,

and seek Najd and that mountain.

And go down to water by the tents of al-Liwā,

and take shade beneath its wild lote trees and acacias.

Then, when you two reach the valley of Minā—

for that is where my heart has already pitched its tent—

convey from me the greetings of love

to everyone who has lodged there or offered greetings.

And listen to what they say in reply,

and tell of the heartsick one and what

    he complains of—love's ardent longings—

as he speaks openly, seeks news, and asks questions.
