ما كلُّ من أفهمته يفهم

ما كلُّ من أفهمته يفهم

ويفهم الشخصُ ولا بفهم

ويفهم الشخصُ ولا بفهم

Not everyone to whom I have explained understands.

Not everyone who I understand, understands me

And a person understands, yet not through understanding.

And the person doesn't understand without understanding

ما قلت للقوم الذي قلته

ما قلت للقوم الذي قلته

إلا كما أخذته عنهمُ

إلا كما أخذته عنهمُ

I said to the people what I said,

I only told the people what they told me

Only as I received it from them.

As I took it from them

إذا رأيت المرء في حالة

إذا رأيت المرء في حالة

موفقا فذلك الملهم

موفقا فذلك الملهم

If you see a man in some state,

When I see a person in a state

Favored with success, then he is the inspired one.

Of success, that is the inspired one

تنفذ في الأنفسِ أحكامه

تنفذ في الأنفسِ أحكامه

على الذي قال لي الملهم

على الذي قال لي الملهم

His rulings take effect in souls,

His judgments penetrate into souls

According to what the inspired one told me.

As the inspired one told me

فيبهم الأمر الذي أوضحوا

فيبهم الأمر الذي أوضحوا

ويوضحُ الأمر الذي أبهموا

ويوضحُ الأمر الذي أبهموا

So he obscures the matter they made clear,

So the matter they clarified becomes vague

And makes clear the matter they obscured.

And the vague matter they clarified

وكلُّ نصّ بيِّنٍ جاءهم

وكلُّ نصّ بيِّنٍ جاءهم

عند الذي ذكرته مبهمُ

عند الذي ذكرته مبهمُ

And every clear text that came to them

And every clear text that came to them

Is obscure in the eyes of the one I mentioned.

Is vague to the one I mentioned

إني رأيتُ الناس في غَفلةٍ

إني رأيتُ الناس في غَفلةٍ

وإنها مني لا منهمُ

وإنها مني لا منهمُ

Indeed, I saw the people in heedlessness,

I saw people in ignorance

And indeed it is from me, not from them.

And it is from me, not from them
