ماnot يتَّقيfears اللهGod إلاexcept كلُّevery ذيpossessor of نظرinsight
ما يتَّقي الله إلا كلُّ ذي نظر
مسدَّدrightly guided مُجتَبىchosen قدindeed خصَّهsingled him out اللهُGod
مسدَّد مُجتَبى قد خصَّه اللهُ
None fears God but one endowed with insight,
None fear God but those with insight,
rightly guided and chosen, whom God has singled out.
Chosen and guided by Allah's light.
يقطعُspends الليلَthe night بالتسبيحin glorification بينbetween يديthe two hands of
يقطعُ الليلَ بالتسبيح بين يدي
مولاهhis Lord دَامعةٌtearful فيin الليلِthe night عيناهhis two eyes
مولاه دَامعةٌ في الليلِ عيناه
He spends the night in glorification before
They spend the night glorifying their Lord,
his Lord, his eyes shedding tears in the night.
Tears flow from their eyes in accord.
يقولhe says ياO سيديmy Master ياO منتهىultimate goal of أمليmy hope
يقول يا سيدي يا منتهى أملي
ماthere is no للعبيدِfor the servants رحيمٌmerciful one غيرُother than مولاهhis Lord
ما للعبيدِ رحيمٌ غيرُ مولاه
He says: “O my Master, O ultimate goal of my hope!
"My Master, my hope's end," they implore,
The servants have none merciful but their Lord.”
"Slaves have no refuge but at God's door."
اللهGod كرَّمَhonored منone who هذيthis سجيَّتهhis disposition
الله كرَّمَ من هذي سجيَّته
ونعتهand his character فإذاso when يدعوهhe calls upon Him لَّباهHe answers him
ونعته فإذا يدعوه لَّباه
God has honored the one whose disposition is such,
God honored are those of this trait,
and whose character is such; when he calls Him, He answers him.
When they call Him, their needs He'll sate.
لولاwere it not for ماnot ضحكتsmiled أرضٌearth بزهرتهاwith its blossoms
لولا ما ضحكت أرضٌ بزهرتها
ولاnor بَكتْwept سُحبهاits clouds لولاهbut for him لولاهbut for him
ولا بَكتْ سُحبها لولاه لولاه
Were it not for him, the earth would not have smiled with its blossoms,
If not for Him, no land would flower,
nor would its clouds have wept—but for him, but for him.
No clouds would weep drops in their power.
اللهGod فضَّلهfavored him اللهGod جمَّلهbeautified him
الله فضَّله الله جمَّله
اللهGod عدَّلهset him right اللهGod سوَّاهfashioned him
الله عدَّله الله سوَّاه
God has favored him; God has made him beautiful.
God graced them, beautified them,
God has set him right; God has fashioned him.
Rectified them, symmetrized them.
ياO صفوةَquintessence of الدينِthe faith أنتَyou أجمعهall of it
يا صفوةَ الدينِ أنتَ أجمعه
طابتْgrew sweet بذكركat the mention of you أعرافٌfragrances وأفواهand mouths
طابتْ بذكرك أعرافٌ وأفواه
O quintessence of the faith, you are all of it.
O essence of faith, you encompass all,
Fragrances and mouths have grown sweet at the mention of you.
By your remembrance, mouths stand tall.
