ما لي وإياك غير الله من سندِ

ما لي وإياك غير الله من سندِ

وفاز من يتخذ ربَّ الورى سندا

وفاز من يتخذ ربَّ الورى سندا

Neither I nor you have any support but God.

You and I have none but Allah as our support

And whoever takes the Lord of all creation as his support has triumphed.

Whoever takes the Lord of the worlds as his support is successful

هو المهيمن فوقَ العرشِ مسكنه

هو المهيمن فوقَ العرشِ مسكنه

كما يليقُ به ديناً ومعتقدا

كما يليقُ به ديناً ومعتقدا

He is the Guardian; above the Throne is His dwelling,

He is the Overseer above the Throne is His dwelling

as befits Him in faith and belief.

As befits Him in religion and creed

يأتي وينزلُ والألبابُ تطلبه

يأتي وينزلُ والألبابُ تطلبه

كما روينا على المعنى الذي قَصَدا

كما روينا على المعنى الذي قَصَدا

He comes and descends, and discerning minds seek Him,

He comes and descends while minds seek Him

as we have related, according to the meaning He intended.

As We have recounted concerning the intended meaning

ومن يكون على ما قلت فيه فقد

ومن يكون على ما قلت فيه فقد

وفى بما كلف الإنسان واقتصدا

وفى بما كلف الإنسان واقتصدا

And whoever abides by what I have said of Him has

Whoever is as I have said regarding Him has

fulfilled what humankind was charged with and kept a middle course.

Fulfilled what was enjoined upon man and been moderate

ودع مقالةَ قومٍ قال عالمهم

ودع مقالةَ قومٍ قال عالمهم

بأنه بالإله الواحدِ اتّحدا

بأنه بالإله الواحدِ اتّحدا

And leave aside the claim of a people whose scholar said

Leave the talk of people whose scholar said

that he had become one with the One God.

That He is unified with the One God

الاتحاد محال لا يقول به

الاتحاد محال لا يقول به

إلا جهولٌ به عن عقلِه شَرَدا

إلا جهولٌ به عن عقلِه شَرَدا

Union is impossible; no one professes it

Unification is impossible, none speak it

except one ignorant of it, who has strayed from his reason,

Except an ignorant one, straying from his reason

وعن حقيقتِه وعن شريعته

وعن حقيقتِه وعن شريعته

فاعبد إلهك لا تشرِك به أحدا

فاعبد إلهك لا تشرِك به أحدا

and from his true nature and his sacred law.

And from His reality and from His Law

So worship your God; associate no one with Him.

So worship your God, do not associate any with Him

وانهض إلى واهب الأسرار تحظ به

وانهض إلى واهب الأسرار تحظ به

ولتتخذ عنده قبلَ القدومِ يدا

ولتتخذ عنده قبلَ القدومِ يدا

And rise toward the Giver of secrets, that you may attain Him;

And rise to the Granter of mysteries, you will gain Him

and gain a claim to His favor before coming

And take before the arrival a hand with Him

عليه من دارك الدنيا ومن فكر

عليه من دارك الدنيا ومن فكر

تظن من أجلها في حيرة أبدا

تظن من أجلها في حيرة أبدا

to Him from your worldly home, and from thoughts

From your earthly abode and from thought

that leave you forever conjecturing in bewilderment.

You think because of it in endless confusion

وكن إماما ولا تسعى لمفسدة

وكن إماما ولا تسعى لمفسدة

بكلِّ وجهٍ وكنْ في الحكم مجتهدا

بكلِّ وجهٍ وكنْ في الحكم مجتهدا

And be a leader, and seek no corruption

And be an imam and do not pursue corruption

in any form; and be diligent in judgment.

In any way, and be assiduous in judgment

ولا تغالط بتعطيلٍ وأقيسَةٍ

ولا تغالط بتعطيلٍ وأقيسَةٍ

وكنْ عن الرأي والتقليد مُنفردا

وكنْ عن الرأي والتقليد مُنفردا

And do not use sophistry through denying divine attributes and analogical arguments;

And do not err through invalidating and rationalizing

and stand apart from personal opinion and imitation.

And be unique in opinion and following

إني نصحتك والرحمن يشهد لي

إني نصحتك والرحمن يشهد لي

كما أمرتُ وهذا كله وردا

كما أمرتُ وهذا كله وردا

I have counseled you, and the All-Merciful bears witness for me,

I have advised you and the Merciful bears witness for me

as I was commanded, and all this has been transmitted.

As I was commanded, and all this is a gift
