حقيقتي أن أكون عبداً

حقيقتي أن أكون عبداً

وحقُّه أن يكون ربا

وحقُّه أن يكون ربا

My true nature is to be a servant.

My truth is to be a slave

And His due is to be Lord.

And His right is to be Lord

إن كان لي في الشهود مثلا

إن كان لي في الشهود مثلا

كنتُ له في المثال قلبا

كنتُ له في المثال قلبا

If He were a likeness to me in witnessing,

If I have an example in witnessing

I would be a heart for Him in the image.

I would be for Him an exemplary heart

ما زال إذ زدت منه بعدا

ما زال إذ زدت منه بعدا

بالوجد يوليني منه قربا

بالوجد يوليني منه قربا

He never ceased, as I grew farther from Him,

He still draws me nearer in intimacy

To grant me nearness to Him through ecstasy.

The more distant from Him I become

أو كنت ذا لوعة معنى

أو كنت ذا لوعة معنى

يكون لي الصادق المحبا

يكون لي الصادق المحبا

Or if I were tormented by burning longing,

Or if I have a burning passion

He would be my true lover.

The True and Loving One is mine
