My divinity donned my humanity as armor.

And my ark received the sea's Moses.

Who, then, has said of me that I am the servant,

when it is certain that I am the sole King?

For many a learned man has been deceived by denial.

So behold my might within you and my firm establishment

upon the throne of my transcendence beyond sustenance.

    And were you a created being, you would be confined;

and were you a servant, you would be subjugated,

and you would be innately disposed to faith.

So my body among you is a body subdued,

and my spirit within it is a fortunate spirit.

    فقد ثبتَ الجسمُ مع الروح

    Behold: conceal it, O soul, or reveal it;

for the body stands firmly established with the spirit,

in plain sight, as the inscription is fixed on the tablet.

But if God decrees my scattering,

then the powerlessness of my divinity appears.

So if another says that I am like you,

and if you are a throne, then we are your shadow,

or a steady rain of droplets, then I am your downpour,

I say to my soul: "Bring forth, or come!"

So live by that, or die.

Did you not know, when he built the house,

    how swiftly death demolishes it,

while his grief over the loss remains upon him?

So how vast the distance between one regarded and one detested!

And how vast the distance between the one with the ark and the great fish!

So if exaggeration [uncertain reading] and torment were to cease

in speech, and wounding in the heart,

an opening would be made within your innermost secret,

and you would behold what was beheld by one granted

the direct vision of nearness, and what he was granted.
