    Love has bewildered me

    concerning what you know.

    So when I say, "I,"

he says, "I do not know it."

    And when I say, "Yes,"

    he says, "This I understand."

    I am nothing but love,

    and so I master it.

    And love makes clear what

I have never ceased to obscure.

And we have, from all that

he told me, its clear meaning.

    Thus I was taught

by my master, who perfects it.

So through him I reveal it,

and for him I conceal it.

And I am the servant whose

    stars have already fallen,

    who seeks the thing whose

    sign lies in the dust.

And so I act justly in

    all that I wrong.

The very thing I make clear

is the very thing I obscure.

    So when I praise him,

    then I wound him.

And whatever he unravels for me,

    I then bind it fast.

    And so he sees me

    forever vexing him.
