Light is the veil of the One whom darkness conceals

from us, and the keys of generosity lift it.

    فإنما الكشفُ بين النورِ والظلم

    And call it generosity, if you are generous;

for unveiling lies only between light and darkness.

He lowered the veil only to protect with it

the face of being from burning and nonexistence.

If you wish to see what you do not see, then be

through Him, on a lofty footing of eternity.

All-encompassing knowledge is His, not mine to seek,

for it may harm me, leading to regret.

Nothing, after God, knows more than it, save

the Nūn of the inkwell; for the head of the master Pen

sets out in detail what, in the Nūn, was summed up

by the Lord of servants, in outspread and ordered forms.

So these are words of wisdom that have come to you from an arbiter

who holds sway over minds through wisdom.

Knowledge, then, in the world of lights and darkness,

manifests more powerfully than gnosis does in words.
