Indeed, I have sought refuge in myself from myself, for we have

light through the spirit and darkness through the fleshly body.

And I remain thus as long as our dwelling endures.

So if I journeyed away from kin and country,

I would find in it radiance with no darkness,

dispensing with kin, wealth, and offspring.

Yet it has shade; that shade is our repose

in the form of the body, not in the form of the fleshly body,

pure in essence, untouched by the influence of the sustenance

through which nature has appeared in the elements.

Purity is mine through it, as long as I dwell in it,

and abiding in it comes to no end.

If there were no goodness or ease in it

except our release from what arouses envy.
