الميل في الأمرين لا ينكر

لكنه في جانبي أظهر

Inclination in both matters cannot be denied,

The inclination in both matters cannot be denied

yet it is more evident on my side,

But it is more evident on my side

لأنني بالجسم حصَّلته

لأنني بالجسم حصَّلته

مشاهداً للعين إذ تبصر

مشاهداً للعين إذ تبصر

because through the body I attained it,

Because I obtained it through the body

visible to the eye when it sees.

Witnessed by the eye when it observes

ثم اجتمعنا في المعاني وقد

ثم اجتمعنا في المعاني وقد

زدت بميل الحسِّ إذ تشعر

زدت بميل الحسِّ إذ تشعر

Then we met in meanings, and indeed

Then we came together in meanings after

I gained more through sensory inclination, as you perceive.

I increased the inclination of feeling when it senses

اضرب أسداساً بأخماسها

اضرب أسداساً بأخماسها

لعلني في ضربها أذكر

لعلني في ضربها أذكر

Multiply sixths by their fifths,

Strike a sixth with its fifths

perhaps in multiplying them I may recall

Perhaps in striking it I will remember

ما فاتني منه وإني إذا

ما فاتني منه وإني إذا

أذكره يشهدني المحضر

أذكره يشهدني المحضر

what of it escaped me; and indeed, when I

What escaped me of it, and if

recall it, the bringer into presence makes me witness it.

I remember it, the witness will testify to me

وذا عزيز إنْ يرى حاصلاً

وذا عزيز إنْ يرى حاصلاً

وما عليه أحد يعثر

وما عليه أحد يعثر

And this is rare, should it be seen realized,

This is precious - if one sees it fulfilled

and no one stumbles upon it.

And no one finds fault in it

يخسر من كان مليكاً به

يخسر من كان مليكاً به

ويربح السوقة والمتجر

ويربح السوقة والمتجر

Whoever was a king through it loses,

He who possessed it loses

and the common folk and the trader profit.

And the broker and trader profit

يعطي ولا يأخذ وهو الذي

يعطي ولا يأخذ وهو الذي

يظهره في عينه المظهر

يظهره في عينه المظهر

He gives and does not take, and he is the one

He gives and does not take, and He is the one

whom the manifester reveals in his very essence.
