عبدتُ الله لم أعبد سواه

عبدتُ الله لم أعبد سواه

فما معبودُنا إلا الإلهُ

فما معبودُنا إلا الإلهُ

I worshipped God; I worshipped none besides Him.

I worshipped God, I worshipped none but Him,

For the one we worship is none but God.

For our object of worship is none but God.

شَرَى توحيد في كلِّ عينٍ

شَرَى توحيد في كلِّ عينٍ

فما شيءٌ يسبِّحه سواه

فما شيءٌ يسبِّحه سواه

Oneness shone in every being,

The truth of divine oneness is seen in every eye,

so nothing glorifies Him except He Himself.

So nothing glorifies Him but He.

ولكن ليس نفقه علم هذا

ولكن ليس نفقه علم هذا

وإنْ كان قد دعاه

وإنْ كان قد دعاه

Yet we do not comprehend the knowledge of this,

Yet not everyone understands this knowledge,

even if he had already invoked Him.

Even if He has called them to Him.

لقد حجب العباد بما أراهم

لقد حجب العباد بما أراهم

من أنفسه فلا عينٌ تراه

من أنفسه فلا عينٌ تراه

He has indeed veiled the servants with what He showed them

People are veiled from Him by their own selves-

of His selves, so no eye sees Him.

No eye sees Him,

ولا عقلٌ يراه بعينِ فكرٍ

ولا عقلٌ يراه بعينِ فكرٍ

وبرهانٍ ولم يبعد مداه

وبرهانٍ ولم يبعد مداه

Nor does any intellect see Him through the eye of thought

No mind perceives Him through reason and proof,

and proof, yet His reach is not far.

However far its reach extends.

قريبٌ بالشريعةِ حين قالت

قريبٌ بالشريعةِ حين قالت

بأنَّ القلبَ صيَّره حماه

بأنَّ القلبَ صيَّره حماه

He is near through sacred law, when it declared

He is near in the Law when it states

that He made the heart His sanctuary.

That He made hearts His sanctuary.

بعيد بالأدلة عن عقولٍ

بعيد بالأدلة عن عقولٍ

لقد عزَّ الذي يحمي ذراه

لقد عزَّ الذي يحمي ذراه

He is distant from intellects through proofs;

He is far from minds

mighty indeed is He who guards His heights.

Through evidence—Glorious is He who guards His atoms!
