نهضتُI rose إلىtoward نفسيmyself لأعرفso that I might know خالقيmy Creator
كماas جاءwas stated فيin التنزيلِthe Revelation والسنةand the prophetic tradition المثلىthe exemplary
I set out toward my own self to know my Creator,
I rose to myself to know my Creator
As stated in the Revelation and the exemplary Sunnah.
As stated in the Revelation and the ideal Sunnah
فلمso not أرI saw إلاexcept العجزincapacity لمnot أرI saw غيرهanything other than it
فأعرضتُso I turned away عنهfrom it وارتحلتand I journeyed إلىto المجلىthe place of manifestation
So I saw nothing but incapacity; I saw nothing else.
But I saw only incapacity, I saw nothing else
I turned away from it and journeyed to the place of manifestation,
So I turned away from it and headed to the assembly

وذلكand that عندin the judgment of العقلthe intellect غايتناour goal السُّفلىthe lowest
Upon a cushion of ruby and pearls, journeying purposefully.
On the fluttering of ruby and pearls, aiming
And that, to the intellect, is our lowest goal.
And that is our lowest goal, according to the intellect
فلماso when بدتappeared للعينto the eye سجةُthe countenance ذاتهhis essence
سجدتُI prostrated لهاbefore her ذُلاًin humility فقالتso she said لناto us أهلاwelcome
So when the countenance of his essence appeared to the eye,
So when the veil of His essence appeared to the eye
I prostrated before her in humility, and she said to us, 'Welcome.'
I prostrated to it humbly, and it said to us "welcome"
وشالتْand lifted ستورcurtains الحجبِthe veils عنfrom عينthe eye عقلناour intellect
فشاهدتso I beheld مرئياًsomething visible بلاwithout مقلةan eye نجلاwide
And the curtains of the veils lifted from our intellect's eye,
And it lifted the veils of obstacles from the eye of our intellect
So I beheld something visible without a wide-open eye.
So I saw a vision without blinking, pure
وقلتand I said لهاto her منwho أنتyou قالتshe said وجودكمyour existence (plural)
فكنتso I was لهاto her أهلاًa spouse وكانتand she was لناto us بعلاa husband
And I said to her, 'Who are you?' She said, 'Your existence.'
And I said to it "who are you?" It said "your existence"
So I was her spouse, and she was our husband.
So I became worthy of it and it became for us a husband
فأولدنيso he made me bear offspring منfrom كلِّevery سترٍveil مُحجبhidden
وأوردنيand he brought me to drink منfrom ذلكthat الموردthe water source الأجلىthe clearest
So he made me bear offspring from every hidden veil,
So it gave birth to me from every obstructing veil
And brought me to drink from that clearest source.
And it let me drink from that most glorious spring
