رأيتُ وجود الدورِ يعطي الدوائر

رأيتُ وجود الدورِ يعطي الدوائر

ويعطي وجود الدورِ فيه الدوائر

ويعطي وجود الدورِ فيه الدوائر

I saw the existence of rotation give rise to circles;

I saw existence of cycles gives circles

and within it, circles give rise to the existence of rotation.

And existence of cycles gives circles in them

رميت بأمر لم ير العقلُ مثله

رميت بأمر لم ير العقلُ مثله

بما أنا علاَّمٌ به أنا حائر

بما أنا علاَّمٌ به أنا حائر

I was assailed by a matter whose like the intellect had never seen.

I threw a thing the mind hadn't seen the like of

I am bewildered by what I know so thoroughly.

Since I'm its teacher, I'm confused

رمى بي وجوه القومِ ثم يقولُ لي

رمى بي وجوه القومِ ثم يقولُ لي

رميتَ وجوهَ القومِ هل أنتَ ناظر

رميتَ وجوهَ القومِ هل أنتَ ناظر

He hurled me at the people's faces, then says to me:

The people's faces were thrown at me, then told me

"You struck the people's faces—are you looking?"

You threw the people's faces, are you a watcher?

رأى نظري بالحق ما لم يكن يرى

رأى نظري بالحق ما لم يكن يرى

إلاَّ أنه الرائي لما هو ساتر

إلاَّ أنه الرائي لما هو ساتر

My gaze saw through the Real what it had not seen,

My sight with truth saw what wasn't being seen

except that he is the seer of what he veils.

Except he's the seer of what's hidden

رعى الله من يرعاه في كلِّ حالةٍ

رعى الله من يرعاه في كلِّ حالةٍ

وإنْ لم يكن ما قلتُه فهو خاسر

وإنْ لم يكن ما قلتُه فهو خاسر

May God watch over whoever is mindful of him in every state;

May God tend to whom He tends in every state

and if what I said is not so, then he is a loser.

And if what I said isn't so, then he's a loser

رقيت به حتى ظهرت لمستوى

رقيت به حتى ظهرت لمستوى

وجودي فقال الكشفُ ما هو حاضر

وجودي فقال الكشفُ ما هو حاضر

I ascended through him until I appeared at the level

I ascended with it until my existence's level appeared

of my existence; then unveiling said, "It is not present."

So the unveiling said what's present

ربابةُ سهمِ الذمِ صيَّر ذاتنا

ربابةُ سهمِ الذمِ صيَّر ذاتنا

ونحن إشاراتُ السِّهامِ الغوائر

ونحن إشاراتُ السِّهامِ الغوائر

He made our essence a quiver for blame's arrow,

The blame arrow's stirrup made our essence

and we are signs of the deeply piercing arrows.

And we're hints of the hidden arrows

ربا بفؤادي عين إيمانه بنا

ربا بفؤادي عين إيمانه بنا

وذلك كفر الكفر ما هو كافر

وذلك كفر الكفر ما هو كافر

The very essence of his faith in us grew in my heart;

He cared for my heart an eye of faith in us

and that is disbelief in disbelief; he is no disbeliever.

And that's the disbelief of disbelief, what's an infidel

رأى الأمر من قبلِ الوقوع لأنه

رأى الأمر من قبلِ الوقوع لأنه

يرى في ثبوتِ العين ما هو ظاهر

يرى في ثبوتِ العين ما هو ظاهر

He saw the matter before it occurred, because he

He saw the matter before happening because

sees in the entity's fixity what is manifest,

He sees in the eye's establishment what's apparent

رقيباً عليه غائباً ثم شاهداً

رقيباً عليه غائباً ثم شاهداً

فما أنا مقهورٌ ولا السِّرُّ قاهر

فما أنا مقهورٌ ولا السِّرُّ قاهر

watchful over it, absent, then witnessing;

A supervisor over it absent, then present

so I am not overpowered, nor is the secret overpowering.

So I'm neither overpowered nor is the secret dominant
