إِنّيindeed I عَجِبتُmarveled لِصَبٍّat a lovesick lover مِنbecause of مَحاسِنِهِhis charms
إِنّي عَجِبتُ لِصَبٍّ مِن مَحاسِنِهِ
تَختالُyou strut proudly ماwhat lies بَينَbetween أَزهارٍflowers وَبُستانِand a garden
تَختالُ ما بَينَ أَزهارٍ وَبُستانِ
I marveled at a lovesick lover, whose charms
I am amazed by a youth whose perfections
make you strut among flowers and a garden.
Strut like flowers and gardens.
فَقُلتُso I said لاdo not تَعجِبيmarvel مِمَّنat the one whom تَرَينَyou see فَقَدfor indeed
فَقُلتُ لا تَعجِبي مِمَّن تَرَينَ فَقَد
أَبصَرتِyou have seen نَفسَكَyourself فيin مِرآةِthe mirror of إِنسانِa human being
أَبصَرتِ نَفسَكَ في مِرآةِ إِنسانِ
So I said, “Do not marvel at the one you see, for indeed
I said, "Do not be amazed by what you see,
you have seen yourself in the mirror of a human being.”
For you have seen yourself in the mirror of a man."
