    I clothed a maiden in a garment of modesty,

    In sleep, between the House's door and the Stone.

    And I kissed him, so we kissed her lips,

    And in him I lost all awareness of joy.

    And she cried for help amid the turns of circumambulation, while

    They had unveiled faces of the fairest forms.

    هذا قتيلُ الهوى واللثمِ والنظرِ

    This is a noble imam in our midst;

    This is one slain by love, kissing, and gazing.

    عساه يحيى كمثلِ النفخِ في الصور

    The mother said to her, 'Kiss him a second time;

    Perhaps he will come to life, as when the Trumpet is blown.'

    For the blowing draws out the souls of humankind, and through it

    He comes to life when they are summoned from graves to resurrection.

    وأدبرتُ وأنا منها على الآثرِ

    So I returned, and she dispelled the hold of my swoon;

    And I turned away, following in her wake.

    I kiss the earth in reverence for her tread,

    For love of him, while I am wary of him,

    Because of confining him to a woman's form

    At the manifestation; so I said, 'The shortcoming lies in my sight.'

    And women like stars in their places of rising,

    And you among them are the very sun and moon.

    Oh, how beautiful she is—a maiden like the rising sun!

    She captivates minds with that coquetry and dark-eyed beauty.
