قدindeed أقسمhas sworn اللهGod ليto me فيin سورةSurah البلدal-Balad (the City)
قد أقسم الله لي في سورة البلد
بأنهthat He خَلَقَcreated الإنسانَhumankind فيin كَبَدِhardship
بأنه خَلَقَ الإنسانَ في كَبَدِ
God has indeed sworn to me in Surah al-Balad
God has sworn to me in Surat Al-Balad
That He created humankind in hardship.
That He created man in distress
وماand not أرادHe meant بهذاby this الخلقَcreation منof أحدanyone
وما أراد بهذا الخلقَ من أحد
منof نشأتيmy constitution سوىexcept روحيmy spirit معwith الجسدِthe body
من نشأتي سوى روحي مع الجسدِ
And by this creation He meant none
And He did not intend by this creation anyone
Of my constitution save my spirit together with the body.
Except my soul with the body
وإنهاand indeed it حضرةُPresence الأسماءِthe Names حضرتهHis Presence
وإنها حضرةُ الأسماءِ حضرته
تسعٌnine وتسعونand ninety لمdid not تنقصْdiminish ولمand did not تزدincrease
تسعٌ وتسعون لم تنقصْ ولم تزد
And it is the Presence of the Names—His Presence:
It is the presence of the names, His presence
Ninety-nine, neither diminished nor increased.
Ninety-nine, never decreasing nor increasing
وإنهاand indeed they درجاتٌdegrees فيin الجنانthe Gardens علىaccording to
وإنها درجاتٌ في الجنان على
أعدادهاtheir numbers نزلتthey descended بحكمهاby their decree وقدand that suffices
أعدادها نزلت بحكمها وقد
And they are degrees in the Gardens, according to
And they are degrees in Paradise according to
Their numbers; they descended by their decree, and that suffices.
Their number, descended by His decree
وماand not لناfor us سندa chain of transmission فيconcerning ذاكthat أسردُهI recount it
وما لنا سند في ذاك أسردُه
للسامعينto the listeners وإنand although الأمرthe matter فيin سندa chain of transmission
للسامعين وإن الأمر في سند
And for that we have no chain of transmission I can recount
We have no authority in this which I would state
To the listeners, though the matter has a chain of transmission.
To the listeners, and the matter is in authority
