منfrom اسمthe name العزيزِthe Almighty إنif كنتyou were تعقلُyou understand
ومنand from بعدِهafter it فتحٌan opening لهfor it النفسُthe soul تعملُlabors
From the name 'the Almighty,' if you understand,
If you are wise, think of the name of the Almighty
and after it, an opening for which the soul labors.
And after Him, your soul is open to act righteously
فقومواso rise لهfor Him واستغفرواand seek forgiveness from اللهGod إنهindeed He is
رحيمٌmerciful إذاwhen الخطَّاءُthe habitual sinner يأتيcomes فيسألand then asks
So rise for Him and seek God's forgiveness; indeed He is
So stand for Him and ask Allah for forgiveness, for He
merciful when the habitual sinner comes and asks.
Is Merciful when the sinner comes to Him and implores
يختصis singled out بالنصرِfor victory العزيزِmighty مؤيّدone who is aided
ويختصُّand is singled out بالنصرfor victory المشاهدwitnessed مفضلone who is favored
One who is aided is singled out for mighty victory,
He grants victory to the Almighty, His supporter
and one who is favored is singled out for witnessed victory.
And He grants victory to the witness, His favored one
تقسمwas torn apart قلبيmy heart فيin هواهlove for Him وإنهand indeed it is
لداءsurely an affliction عظيمgrave إنif تحققتَyou truly discern مُعضلintractable
My heart was torn apart in love for Him, and indeed it is
My heart is torn by its passion, which is
a grave, intractable affliction, if you truly discern.
A grave affliction if you ponder the dilemma
فرؤيةso the vision علميmy knowledge تغنيsuffices عنin place of عينِthe eye ناظريmy seeing faculty
وماand not رؤيتيmy vision الأخرىthe other عنfrom العلمِknowledge تعدلُturns away
So the vision of my knowledge dispenses with my seeing eye,
For my knowledge satisfies my mind's eye
and my other vision does not turn away from knowledge.
And my sight cannot equal knowledge
فماso not تعطيgive أبصارٌeyes سوىexcept شخصٍa visible form ماwhat رأتْthey saw
ويعطيكand gives you عينُthe eye القلبِof the heart ماwhat كنَتyou were تجهلُyou do not know
For eyes yield nothing but the visible form of what they have seen,
Eyes only give you an image of what they have seen
while the eye of the heart gives you what you did not know.
While the mind's eye gives you what you never knew
إلاexcept أنهthat He is المنكورthe unrecognized منfrom حيثُthe standpoint of ناظريmy seeing faculty
كماjust as أنهthat He is المعروفُthe known للعقلِto the intellect فاعقلواso understand
Yet He is unrecognized from the standpoint of my sight,
Though it seems bizarre to my eyes
just as He is known to the intellect—so understand.
To reason it is familiar, so reason!
وقدand indeed جاءhas come فيin الأخبارthe reports هذاthis الذيwhich أناI
أقولI affirm بهconcerning it حُكماًas a judgment لمَنْfor whoever كانwas يعقلُunderstands
And this has indeed appeared in the reports—the very thing I
What I am saying has been stated
affirm as a judgment for whoever understands.
In the scriptures - a lesson for the wise
